CARRÉ GÖTTINGEN: Just under 3.5 kilometres from the Parkhotel Ropeter you will find the Carré Göttingen in the popular shopping and strolling street “Weender Straße”. WEENDER STREET: Weender Strasse, Göttingen’s most important shopping street, is located in the centre of Göttingen. Since it is only about 3.5 kilometres away from the Parkhotel Ropeter, it is also quick and easy to reach. Weender Straße is largely a pedestrian zone and therefore not only invites you to go shopping, but also to stroll and window shop in the evening.
GRONER STRAßE: Coming from Groner-Tor-Strasse, one of Göttingen’s largest access roads, you will find many fashion, shoe and specialist shops in Groner Strasse. Groner Straße is just under 3 kilometres from the Parkhotel Ropeter.
Göttingen offers its visitors and residents many museums and exhibitions. Among the best known are probably:
Between Düsterer Straße, Nikolaikirchhof, Nikolaistraße and Turmstraße you will find the Göttingen art quarter “KuQua”. In recent years, the quarter has increasingly developed into a place of cultural and artistic life and exchange. At the centre of KuQua is the Kunsthaus, surrounded by a colourful potpourri of creative crafts, art and junk shops, galleries and bookbinderies, studios and publishers. The location in the historic city centre lends the quarter its incomparable charm. A visit is always worthwhile.
Göttingen’s beautiful old town is only 3 kilometres from the Parkhotel Ropeter. Here you can visit Göttingen’s landmark, the Gänseliesel, at the Gänseliesel fountain of the same name. Göttingen students and graduates owe the Gänseliesel a kiss almost by tradition, so it’s no wonder that the Gänseliesel is Göttingen’s most kissed girl. If you find the Gänseliesel adorned, it means that a Göttingen graduate has earned his doctorate or professorial title. From the Gänseliesel fountain it’s just a hop, skip and a jump to the Old Town Hall, which is not only magnificent from the outside. Perhaps you would also like to take a look at Göttingen from a bird’s eye view? Then you should definitely take a tower tour in the higher tower of the St. Johanniskirche and enjoy the view. Afterwards, you can take a relaxed stroll through the old town, which is lined with half-timbered houses, stop off at one of the many cafés or shop to your heart’s content.
The Luisenhall salt works is a healthy and eventful excursion. Everything here revolves around salt: from table salt to salts for Kneipp treatments to the salt works’ own bathhouse with various treatments, you can marvel, shop and enjoy here. In addition, the Luisenhall salt works is the last pan-boiling plant in Europe.
Göttingen is a very green city. Residents and visitors can picnic and relax in many parks and on various meadows: To name just a few, there is the Leinepark, the Schillerwiesen and Levinscher Park. The wonderfully leafy Stadtwall is definitely worth a walk and the Experimental Botanical Garden in the north of Göttingen will make your eyes widen. Of course, the Old Botanical Garden is also worth a visit. At the Kiessee lake, which is only 3.5 kilometres away from the Parkhotel Ropeter, you can not only take a nice walk in all seasons, but also rent boats in summer and of course swim. Perhaps you would also like to take a bicycle tour into the green surroundings of Göttingen? Then the Leine-Heide cycle path might be for you. Or take a tour to the Hoher Hagen, a volcanic mountain located in the middle of the Dransfeld municipal forest. Or maybe you’re drawn to the Bismarck Tower on the Kleperberg, which is just under 6 kilometres from our beautiful Parkhotel. Or perhaps you would like to visit Plesse Castle, just 12 kilometres away, a beautiful castle ruin with gastronomy and a unique flair.
