Experimental (New) Botanical Garden

Astonishment as part of scientific curiosity

In the north of the city of Göttingen, about 9 kilometres by bike from the Parkhotel Ropeter, lies the Göttingen Experimental Botanical Garden. It is the scientific experimental garden of the University of Göttingen. The large Alpinum is particularly worth seeing: plant formations of different high mountains have been created on approx. 5,000 m². Here you can see how colourful the plants can withstand the harsh climate of the high altitudes.

In Göttingen’s forest botanical garden, which is adjacent to the experimental botanical garden, you can admire forest communities of North America, Europe and Asia. Research, plant cultivation for teaching, environmental education, conservation of endangered species and informing the public are among the garden’s main tasks.

Opening hours: Open air always open

Alpine House: In the summer half-year from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
